About Janis KRISTIANSEN
Janis Kristiansen is a lifelong Washingtonian who spent nearly two decades in the halls of the Washington State Legislature. Her husband, Dan, was elected to the state House in 2003 and served for 16 years, spending the last six as House Minority Leader for the Republican caucus.
Although the Kristiansen’s returned to private life in 2018, Janis says her front row seat to the Legislature inspired her to start the Tangled Angle podcast and share her unique perspective with others. Listening in, you will hear about her experiences in Washington state politics and her perspective on both the state’s political landscape and the nation’s. Janis also traces a variety of topics back through American history and discusses what we can do to preserve the heart and soul of this great nation.
Outside of politics, Janis and Dan have spent their entire lives working for small businesses in the private sector. Janis says she’s now bilingual, fluent in the language of both the private sector and state government.
Janis graduated from the University of Washington in 1985 with a degree in Wood Science and Technology from the College of Forestry. She says if she could do it all over again, however, she would have gotten a degree in English and Journalism because of her love of reading, writing, and the Word. In 2017, she wrote and self-published the book “Letters to My Daughter Claire: Words of Love about Life, Relationships, and Faith.
Janis and Dan have been married for over 35 years, have three kids, raised four, and now their adult kids are spread over three states. They are also proud grandparents.
